Hong Kong  Backpacking itinerary

Destination: Hong Kong, Asia

Season: January 2017

Theme: Solo Backpacking | City | Culture | Hiking

Length: 3 Days

Hong Kong Backpacking itinerary, Hong Kong was the first stop in my itinerary, before the start of an awesome 5 weeks of backpacking through the Philippine. Hong kong is relatively small city and very well connected by MRT. All you need to cover Hong kong is some information about the highlight of the city. I spent 3 days in Hong kong which was enough to see what I wanted to see, but you can certainly stay for longer. Once I was in Hong Kong I realised that, many people fly to Taiwan from here. Its only about 2h of flaying plus Taiwan is very cheap compare to Hong Kong from what I was told and its worth the trip. However I did not have the time to go to either Taiwan or Macau. You can do them two if you have more time.

Day 1 Arrival

Once you walk out of the migration point at Hong Kong international airport, you will see a tourist information office with lots of guide and maps just pick what you like. They simply have a leaflet for most of the attraction and activity you can do in Hong Kong, and its for free. Once you walk pass migration there is also a currency exchange office. Change money £1 = 10$ HK dollar. Than you can buy a 10 day sim card with unlimited data and about 100 mint talk time for £8 from the same place highly recommend getting the sim card, as you will get data all the time, very useful. Than go and get octopus card the office inside too just ask any one the will tell you, You can use the octopus card for the MRT which is the cheapest way to move around Hong Kong.

Train from Airport to Kowloon about 25mint, than I took a taxi from Kowloon station to Tsim Sha Tsui, which is another 20mnit & its cost around $40 HK dollar. However you should use the MRT but I was too lazy to lazy to do so. I arrived to Hong Kong at 5am in the morning, and I was at my hostel in Tsim Sha Tsui, by 7:30 am so I had all day, I decided to start with Hong Kong Island.

Day 1 Hong Kong Island

I was at my hostel, Hop Inn on Mody in Mody Road,Tsim Sha Tsui, around 8am. Dropped my backpack at the hostel and then I headed to the Star ferry station at the harbor, about 10 mint walk from Mody Road, the ferry cost about $1 and it take about 10 mint to reach to Hong Kong island. I like to walk, so once I arrived, I walked from the harbor to Golden Bauhinia Square, than just walk from there through random shopping street. Around 2 pm I took a taxi to Central Hong Kong to book a ticket for Peak Tram, to go to the Victoria peak, you can also go by bus but I wanted to use the Tram. At the top of Victoria peak as will as the view their is lots of shops and other attractions at the top. Than I was down by 5pm, I walked back to the harbor to take a ferry back to Tsim Sha Tsui. After that, at 8pm I want to Symphony of Light, at the harbor in Tsim Sha Tsui, Its just next to the star ferry station.

Which was at   a very central location. Its 10mint walk from Star ferry (which take you to Hong kong island and back). Also very close to MRT station and their are supermarket next to it.Tsim Sha Tsui Also is very close to Nathan street, Auston road, Jordan road, the Temple market and Avenue of Stars.

And alsoTsim Sha Tsui is about 15mint walk from the harbor where you can see the light symphony at 8pm every night. Also close to sky100 which give you a full view of the city.

Day 2 Lantau Island

Day two was an early day and was my favorite day in Hong Kong, The Big Buddha (Tian Tan Buddha) area is such a nice and peaceful place, I highly recommend that you spend good time to think and reflect in here. I took the 8am MRT from Tsim Sha Tsui and I was in Lantau Island for around 9 ish. Once I arrived to Lantau Island MRT station, I booked a two way ticker for the cable car to take me up to the Big Buddha. The cable car station is about 5 mint walking from the MRT station. Once you get to the top there are many thing to do and see. I also visited Tai O Fishing Village, which you can go to using the bus terminal located next to the big Buddha, I highly recommend it.
